Fiber Facts

A diet consisting of enough fiber is beneficial to your health in a variety of ways. Consuming soluble fiber can protect against heart disease, promotes good gut health, and can contribute significantly to your body weight management. Fiber is also important to include in your diet if you are diabetic, as it can help slow the absorption of sugar, helping to prevent spikes after meals.

There are two types of fiber: soluble and insoluble.

Soluble fiber dissolves in water, changing as it travels through the digestive system. As it absorbs water it turns gelatinous.

Insoluble fiber does not dissolve in water, and doesn't change form as it travels through the digestive tract.

In general, you shouldn't be too worried about the type of fiber, but more focused on the amount of fiber you get in your daily diet. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics recommend women get 25 grams of fiber per day, and 38 grams for men. After the age of 50, the recommended amount for women is 21 grams, and 30 grams for men.

Having a smoothie a day is a sure way to help get the recommended amount of daily fiber in your diet. Did you know that our Green Smoothie has 5 grams of dietary fiber? Even our members have reported being more regular within 3 days of having a daily Super Smoothie!
